Data Science / Network & Communication Engineer - UAV Systems, Python, Secure Communications
Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the UK. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Location: Basingstoke (UK)
Position Summary
We are seeking a Data Science / Network & Communication Engineer to support the development of secure, data-driven autonomous UAV systems. The role combines analysis of UAV and mission data with cybersecurity engineering across communications, remote operations and drone systems. You will develop analytics tools for flight telemetry, sensor data, communications logs and simulation outputs, while developing and maintaining secure system architectures, network security, threat analysis and resilient UAV operations.
Candidate Profile
- Experience: 2 - 4 years’ experience in data science, cyber security, network engineering or a related technical field.
- Skills:
- Strong interest in autonomous systems, UAV technology and secure connected systems.
- Analytical mindset with an ability to interpret complex technical information and large volumes of data.
- Comfortable working across multidisciplinary engineering projects involving software, hardware, communications and drones.
- Beneficial Experience: Experience working in R&D, research-led development or fast-moving technology environments.

Responsibilities
- Analyse UAV flight telemetry, imagery and sensor data and communications logs.
- Develop and maintain secure system and network architectures for drone platforms.
- Create, train and assess machine-learning models for various drone applications.
- Develop Python tools for data processing, analysis and visualisation.
- Analyse LTE / 4G / 5G, VPN and satellite communications performance.
- Support secure authentication, encryption, access control and system monitoring.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Network or related field.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong Python skills and experience with data analysis.
- Familiarity with Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn or similar tools.
- Good understanding of Linux and computer networks.
- Familiarity with cyber security principles, secure communications and vulnerability assessment.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Other:
- English-speaking proficiency, right to work in the UK and Visa-free travel to the EU.
