About The Role

As a Staff Data Scientist at Compare the Market, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-impact AI and decisioning solutions. Your expertise will help elevate the company's approach to discovering, experimenting, developing, and deploying machine learning and AI models. Collaborating closely with product managers, engineers, and machine learning engineers, you will take key use cases from initial research and problem framing through to robust, measurable production deployment. You will set the technical direction for complex initiatives, mentor fellow data scientists, and promote responsible, scalable practices throughout the model lifecycle. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the company's AI strategy, foster innovation, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and excellence.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience delivering high-impact machine learning and AI solutions in complex, data-rich environments, including deployment and post-launch iteration
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and core data science/machine learning libraries
  • Strong SQL skills and familiarity with distributed data tooling
  • Deep understanding of experimentation, statistical inference, and trustworthy A/B testing frameworks
  • Knowledge of ML system design, model lifecycle management, and governance
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical projects and influencing stakeholders without direct authority
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills to convey complex ideas effectively
  • Experience mentoring data scientists and shaping best practices within a team
  • Background in a quantitative field such as statistics, computer science, mathematics, or engineering, or equivalent applied experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead mission-critical data initiatives from discovery to deployment, ensuring continuous improvement with clear success metrics and guardrails
  • Address complex, ambiguous problems through research, experimentation, modeling, and optimization; utilize iterative hypotheses and testing methods
  • Define technical approaches and roadmaps for high-priority use cases, aligning with product and engineering teams to meet timelines and quality standards
  • Apply and contribute to best practices for experimentation, modeling, and measurement, including uplift and causal inference methods
  • Review and enhance model standards, focusing on feature engineering, validation, bias mitigation, and leakage prevention
  • Collaborate with machine learning and AI engineers to productionize models, embedding monitoring, drift detection, explainability, and fairness standards
  • Act as a technical mentor to data science teams, providing reviews and guidance to uplift skills and ensure quality
  • Influence product roadmaps by collaborating with cross-functional teams on priorities and trade-offs
  • Contribute to the development of AI/ML platform capabilities, driving adoption of reproducible and reliable workflows
  • Stay abreast of emerging research and market trends, turning innovative ideas into prototypes and scalable solutions
  • Embed responsible AI practices into daily operations, promoting explainability, fairness, and compliance
