Working Pattern

  • Hybrid - 2 days per week in the Vitality London Office.
  • Full time, 37.5 hours per week.

What this Role is All About

We're looking for a Data Scientist to play a key role in transforming underwriting and claims through data, AI and advanced analytics.

You'll work across data science, technology and business operations to convert complex data into practical insights and solutions. These solutions will support better outcomes, improve operational efficiency and enhance customer outcomes.

You'll solve real-world business obstacles, partner with experts from across the organisation and contribute to the next generation of AI-enabled underwriting and claims capabilities.

Key Actions

  • Apply data science, machine learning and AI techniques to improve underwriting and claims decision-making, customer outcomes and business performance
  • Develop predictive models, analytical tools and dashboards that provide actionable insights and support operational excellence
  • Work with complex and diverse data sources to identify trends, risks and opportunities across underwriting and claims journeys
  • Take ownership of data science initiatives from problem definition through to implementation, ensuring solutions deliver measurable value
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes, streamline workflows and improve efficiency across the customer lifecycle
  • Collaborate with Underwriting, Claims, Medical, Product and Technology teams to understand challenges and develop effective data-driven solutions
  • Build and maintain robust datasets, analytical assets and scalable models that support long-term business capability
  • Evaluate and implement AI-powered solutions, including intelligent decision support and workflow automation capabilities
  • Communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly to a range of stakeholders, translating complex analysis into meaningful business insight
  • Support the growth of data-driven decision making and contribute to the development of innovative underwriting and claims capabilities

What do you Need to Thrive?

  • Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or a related numerical discipline
  • Proven experience applying data science, machine learning and AI techniques to solve complex business problems
  • Strong SQL and Python skills with the ability to analyse, manipulate and model large datasets
  • Experience developing and deploying predictive models within a commercial environment
  • Ability to translate complex analysis into clear, actionable insights for a range of stakeholders
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with experience working across business and technical teams
  • Commercial mindset with a focus on delivering measurable business value and operational improvements
  • Experience working with version control and collaborative code repositories such as GitHub or Bitbucket
