About The Role
We are partnering exclusively with one of the UK's foremost digital insurance companies to recruit for the position of Senior Data Scientist within their highly regarded Alternative Pricing Product (APP) team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a cutting-edge environment focused on transforming insurance pricing through advanced data science techniques. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be instrumental in developing innovative models that challenge traditional pricing approaches, utilizing large and complex datasets, and applying state-of-the-art machine learning methodologies. This position is ideal for a passionate data professional eager to influence commercial strategies and contribute to the company's ongoing digital transformation.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in data science and analytics, with proven experience in developing predictive models and working with complex datasets. Essential qualifications include proficiency in Python and SQL, along with a solid understanding of machine learning algorithms and their application in a commercial setting. Candidates should have experience in predictive modelling, solving complex business problems through data, and mentoring junior team members. Exposure to model deployment, cloud platforms such as Azure, and geospatial or graph-based modelling is advantageous but not mandatory. A background in insurance, financial services, gaming, or other digital-first industries will be highly regarded.

Responsibilities
- Design and build advanced predictive machine learning models utilizing large, complex datasets to enhance insurance pricing strategies.
- Develop innovative pricing models and customer segmentation techniques to optimize profitability and customer experience.
- Create footprint (geospatial) models by integrating alternative data sources to improve geographic insights.
- Develop residual models aimed at refining claims prediction accuracy and reducing underwriting risk.
- Explore and evaluate novel datasets to enhance model performance and pricing accuracy.
- Transform existing V1 models into production-ready V2 solutions, ensuring robustness and scalability.
- Collaborate closely with Pricing, Data Science, and Engineering teams to align model development with business objectives.
- Mentor and support a Graduate Data Scientist, guiding them through project lifecycle from conception to deployment.
- Participate in cross-functional initiatives to integrate data science solutions into broader business processes.

Interview Process
- An initial 30-minute introductory conversation with the Hiring Manager to discuss your background and interest.
- A take-home case study assessment, followed by a 20-minute presentation and technical discussion to evaluate your technical skills and problem-solving approach.
- Final leadership and team-fit interview to assess cultural alignment and your potential contribution to the team.
