About The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Data Scientist to join our client's innovative team on a contract basis. This role is based in Manchester with a hybrid working model, offering flexibility and the opportunity to work at the forefront of AI-driven discovery platforms. The successful candidate will be instrumental in building the next generation of intelligent search, personalization, and recommendation systems that redefine how users interact with digital content and products. This position offers a unique chance to work on cutting-edge AI applications that directly influence customer experiences, moving beyond traditional R&D into real-world deployment and impact.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in data science, machine learning, and AI, with proven experience in developing scalable models. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field is required; a master's or Ph.D. is preferred. Proficiency in Python and SQL is essential, along with experience working with large datasets and cloud-based data platforms such as Snowflake. Familiarity with machine learning frameworks like scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch is highly desirable. Candidates should have a solid understanding of model explainability techniques, such as SHAP, and experience translating complex model outputs into actionable insights for diverse stakeholders. Strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment are also important.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, evaluate, and refine machine learning models focused on search, personalization, and recommendation systems to enhance customer engagement and relevance.
- Explore innovative AI concepts, including agentic AI, goal-driven systems, multi-step reasoning, and tool use, to revolutionize discovery experiences.
- Work hands-on with large datasets using Python, SQL, and Snowflake, developing features, conducting experiments, and analyzing data to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Implement model explainability techniques such as SHAP to interpret model behavior, communicate insights clearly, and build trust with stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in Data, Product, and Engineering to influence both model development and strategic platform direction.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by monitoring model performance, conducting A/B testing, and integrating feedback into iterative development cycles.
- Ensure that models are production-ready, scalable, and maintainable, aligning with best practices for deployment and operational excellence.
