About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Science Lead to join our dynamic team in London, Glasgow, or Northampton. This pivotal role is designed to shape and execute Barclays' AI and Data Science strategy, leading the development and deployment of advanced analytics and machine learning solutions. The successful candidate will oversee a team of talented data scientists, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning. You will be responsible for designing scalable AI models, establishing best practices across the data science lifecycle, and guiding organizational transformation through data-driven insights. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and strategic leadership, with a focus on delivering impactful solutions that inform decision-making, improve operational efficiency, and drive business growth. As a leader, you will mentor colleagues, influence senior stakeholders, and contribute to the organization’s long-term technological vision.

Qualifications

  • Advanced proficiency in Python, with experience using libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, scikit-learn, and PyTorch
  • Proven experience designing, deploying, and monitoring production-grade machine learning and AI solutions
  • Strong understanding of software engineering best practices including modular development, testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, version control, and deployment automation
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing complex data science projects and driving innovation within teams
  • Experience in designing scalable, governed AI systems within large organizations
  • Expertise in generative AI, Large Language Models, and modern AI architectures
  • Proficiency in advanced data science techniques such as causal inference, time series forecasting, optimization, graph analytics, and deep learning
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear business insights
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to define long-term technical roadmaps and influence senior leadership
  • Experience mentoring and developing technical professionals

Responsibilities

  • Identify, collect, and extract data from internal and external sources to support analytical initiatives
  • Perform data cleaning, wrangling, and transformation to ensure high-quality data for analysis
  • Develop and maintain automated data pipelines for efficient data acquisition and processing
  • Design, develop, and deploy machine learning and AI models to uncover patterns, trends, and insights
  • Create predictive models to forecast future outcomes, identify risks, and uncover opportunities
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify opportunities where data science can add value
  • Establish and promote best practices across the data science lifecycle, including model validation, monitoring, and governance
  • Lead technical projects, defining standards and driving innovation in AI and machine learning solutions
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth
  • Contribute to strategic planning by defining technical roadmaps and influencing organizational change
  • Manage risks associated with data and model deployment, ensuring compliance and governance standards are met
  • Engage with external partners and stakeholders to stay abreast of industry developments and incorporate best practices
