About The Role
We are currently seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our NHS client on a 6-month contract basis. This role is pivotal in supporting strategic healthcare planning through the development and enhancement of workforce demand and supply models. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on high-profile projects that aim to transform workforce forecasting within the NHS by leveraging advanced analytics, simulation modeling, and evidence-based decision-making techniques. The position offers flexibility with a hybrid working model, allowing for remote work alongside on-site collaboration in Cardiff or remotely depending on project requirements.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess proven experience as a Data Scientist within complex, data-driven environments. A strong background in Python development, particularly in building, maintaining, and refining analytical or simulation models, is essential. Knowledge of system dynamics modeling, simulation engines, or forecasting methodologies will be highly advantageous. Familiarity with NHS-specific data, including activity, demand, referral, population health, or workforce datasets, is preferred. Additionally, candidates should have robust SQL skills for extracting and analyzing large datasets, along with experience using visualization tools such as Power BI, Excel, and ideally R for reporting and data presentation. A degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or related fields is typically expected.

Responsibilities
- Develop and refine workforce planning models that facilitate long-term healthcare workforce forecasting and demand planning.
- Analyze complex datasets to identify trends related to workforce inflows, outflows, activity levels, and service demand across NHS settings.
- Apply system dynamics and simulation modeling techniques to enhance existing models and create new forecasting tools.
- Translate operational data, research evidence, and stakeholder requirements into robust analytical models that generate actionable insights.
- Collaborate closely with workforce planning and analytical teams to ensure timely delivery of modeling projects within challenging deadlines.
- Create visualizations, reports, and dashboards that effectively communicate modeling outcomes to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Benefits
This role offers a competitive daily rate between £300 and £325, commensurate with experience. The contract is inside IR35, providing clarity on tax and compliance matters.
