Data Scientist – UK/EU Defence AI Applications

As part of the C3 AI Data Science team, you’ll collaborate with leading global organisations to develop next-generation AI-powered enterprise applications using the C3 AI Platform. Work closely with:
- Data scientists
- Software engineers
- Subject matter experts
to define new analytics capabilities that empower our customers with actionable insights for mission-critical decision-making and digital transformation.
You’ll identify the most effective machine learning algorithms, deploy them on our platform, and ensure they scale efficiently.
Role Overview
This is a frontline position supporting some of the most impactful AI programmes in UK and European defence.
Key focus areas:
- Predictive maintenance for aircraft and combat systems, ensuring operational readiness.
- Digital targeting to sharpen strategic decision-making.
- Logistics optimisation in contested, degraded environments.
Given the high operational stakes, this role involves:
- Deployment to customer and partner locations in the UK, NATO, and allied European settings.

Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end research, design, implementation, and deployment of:
- Machine learning algorithms
- Intelligent agents
- Optimisation solutions for enterprise applications on the C3 AI Suite.

Assist customers in building their own applications on the platform.

Contribute to the design and development of new C3 AI Suite features.

Analyze model performance across asset fleets, addressing:
- Low-risk scores
- False positives and recommending hyperparameter optimisation.

Collaborate with data experts and subject matter specialists to amplify real-world value by:
- Seeking new data sources
- Validating insights
- Ensuring proper interpretation and usage.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications
✅ MS or PhD in:
- Computer Science, Electrical Engineering
- Statistics
- Or a relevant equivalent field
✅ Signal interest in military or defence-related work (required for this role).
✅ Extensive applied AI experience in:
- Generative AI
- Agentic AI solutions
- Supervised and unsupervised learning
- Regression and classification tasks
✅ Strong mathematical foundation with expertise in:
- Linear algebra
- Calculus
- Probability and statistics
✅ Ability to tackle scalability challenges (familiarity with:
- MapReduce
- Streaming systems)

Preferred Qualifications
🔹 Experience in:
- JavaScript
- Python and R (prototyping)
- Java and Scala (marked as a plus)
🔹 Demonstrable portfolio of AI projects (GitHub repos, research papers, or technical blogs).
🔹 Experience with security-conscious environments, especially those requiring defence clearances.
Security Clearance & Residency
⚠ Candidates must either hold or be capable of obtaining and maintaining [SC/NATO clearance].
Residency requirement:
- Must meet the contractor’s threshold for UK residence (typically five years continuous residency).
