About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our client's dynamic team on a contractual basis, initially for three months. The role is based in Manchester with a hybrid work model, offering flexibility and collaboration. The primary focus of this position is to contribute to the development of a next-generation platform that leverages artificial intelligence to revolutionize how customers search, discover, and interact with products. The successful candidate will work at the cutting edge of Agentic AI, intelligent search, recommendation engines, and personalization, playing a pivotal role in creating intelligent, AI-powered discovery experiences. This is a unique opportunity to influence real-world customer journeys, ensuring that models and solutions are integrated into production environments and have a tangible impact on user engagement and satisfaction.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in data science, machine learning, and AI, with proven experience in developing scalable models for production. A bachelor's or master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field is required. Hands-on experience with Python, SQL, and Snowflake is essential, along with familiarity with machine learning frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch. Knowledge of agentic AI concepts, including goal-driven systems, multi-step reasoning, and tool use, is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate excellent analytical skills, the ability to interpret complex data, and a strong understanding of search relevance, ranking algorithms, and recommendation systems. Effective communication skills are vital for collaborating with cross-functional teams and translating technical insights into actionable business strategies.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, evaluate, and refine machine learning models for search, personalization, and recommendation systems, ensuring they deliver measurable improvements in customer experience.
- Explore and implement agentic AI concepts, including goal-driven reasoning, multi-step processes, and tool integration, to enhance discovery and user interaction.
- Work with large datasets using Python, SQL, and Snowflake, creating features, evaluating model performance, and identifying opportunities for relevance and engagement improvements.
- Ensure model transparency and explainability using techniques such as SHAP, and communicate complex outputs clearly to stakeholders across product, engineering, and business teams.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to shape the strategic direction of the platform, providing insights and technical expertise to influence product development.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, staying updated with the latest advancements in AI and machine learning to implement innovative solutions.
