As a Data Scientist, you will help Northern Gas Networks (NGN) turn data into real business impact. Working within our Data & Insights team, you will design smart analytical solutions, build predictive models and explore machine learning opportunities that support better, faster decision-making across the business.

Using a mix of structured and unstructured data, you will uncover trends, predict outcomes and help solve complex business challenges. You will work closely with stakeholders to bring data stories to life, translating technical findings into clear, practical insights that spark innovation, improve efficiency and support continuous improvement.

In this role you will

  • Identify high-value business opportunities and develop data science solutions to address them
  • Build, test, validate, and deploy machine learning and statistical models
  • Develop predictive analytics, forecasting, clustering, classification, and anomaly detection solutions
  • Manage and prepare large structured and unstructured datasets for analysis
  • Produce visualisations and dashboards that clearly communicate model outputs and insights
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to turn complex analytical findings into actionable recommendations
  • Support data governance activities and maintain high standards of data quality and integrity
  • Identify opportunities for automation, optimisation, and innovation across business processes

We are looking for

  • Experience working in a Data Scientist, Machine Learning, Statistical Modelling, or similar analytical role
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and statistical skills
  • Experience developing and managing machine learning models throughout their lifecycle
  • Proficiency in SQL and data visualisation tools such as Power BI or Tableau
  • Experience working with large, complex, and varied datasets
  • The ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • A proactive approach to innovation and continuous improvement

Desirable

  • Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline
  • Experience using Python, R, or other statistical programming languages
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms and scalable data processing technologies
  • Familiarity with SAP systems and enterprise data environments
