Your role:
Working closely with Portfolio Managers and Analysts, the successful candidate will build tools, engineer datasets and apply scripting and machine learning techniques to embed data-driven research across the team’s investment process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build and maintain automated tools and workflows that support the team's investment research process, reducing manual effort and improving efficiency across sectors and geographies
- Work alongside the fundamental analyst team to combine data science techniques with fundamental stock research on the watchlist and existing holdings
- Engineer and manage large datasets from vendor and proprietary sources (e.g. FactSet, Bloomberg, Morningstar, Compustat, Worldscope, DataStream) to support screening, idea generation and portfolio construction
- Proactively seek out and apply new scripting, AI and machine learning techniques to identify patterns, surface original insights and research small companies at scale
- Support the maintenance and evolution of financial models, ensuring data feeds, calculations and outputs are robust, reproducible and scalable
- Partner with technology, data and risk teams to translate research needs into practical, well-engineered solutions, including in cloud-based environments
- Clearly communicate quantitative research, tools and methodologies to Portfolio Managers, Analysts, CPMs and other stakeholders in a way that is accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences

What you can bring:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in a subject such as Statistics, Financial Engineering, Mathematics or Computer/Data Science or similar. CFA or IMC would be advantageous
- Python, R, SQL or other languages used to engineer large datasets
- Experience applying scripting, automation and AI techniques to enhance research or workflows
- Fundamental understanding of core machine learning concepts
- No direct experience of equity markets is necessary, but a genuine knowledge of, and willingness to learn about investing and financial markets is valued
