About the Role

The Data Scientist – Decision Sciences will develop and enhance machine learning models that improve member retention, engagement, and customer lifetime value. Working closely with CRM, analytics, and business stakeholders, this role focuses on translating complex business challenges into scalable data science solutions, driving evidence-based decision-making, and improving commercial outcomes through predictive analytics and experimentation. Location: Leicester, United Kingdom (Hybrid)

Responsibilities

Machine Learning & Predictive Modeling

  • Design, develop, and optimize machine learning models across the member lifecycle.
  • Build predictive models focused on retention, churn prediction, and customer lifetime value.
  • Evaluate existing model pipelines and improve prediction accuracy.
  • Implement enhancements that increase business impact.
  • Support scalable model deployment and lifecycle management.
  • Continuously monitor and refine model performance.

Data Analysis & Decision Science

  • Translate complex business challenges into data science solutions.
  • Conduct deep-dive analyses of member behavior and commercial performance.
  • Analyze marketing effectiveness and customer engagement trends.
  • Build forecasting models to support financial planning.
  • Develop marketing mix models for commercial decision-making.
  • Deliver actionable recommendations based on analytical findings.

Experimentation & Statistical Analysis

  • Design and interpret A/B tests and holdout experiments.
  • Apply statistical techniques including regression and causal inference.
  • Validate model performance using appropriate methodologies.
  • Evaluate retention strategies using experimental results.
  • Support evidence-based decision-making across the organization.
  • Ensure analytical accuracy through rigorous statistical practices.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Reporting

  • Partner closely with CRM Lifecycle and business stakeholders.
  • Translate technical findings into business-friendly insights.
  • Create dashboards and visualizations to communicate model performance.
  • Present recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate with analytics teams to improve retention strategies.
  • Identify opportunities where data science can create business value.

Data Science Innovation

  • Build reusable data products and analytical solutions.
  • Incorporate stakeholder feedback into model improvements.
  • Support continuous enhancement of data science processes.
  • Contribute to the organization's machine learning capabilities.
  • Promote best practices in analytics and model development.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and methodologies.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Significant experience as a Data Scientist.
  • Experience in marketing analytics, ecommerce, or a loyalty or membership-driven environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for data manipulation, machine learning, and statistical modeling.
  • Advanced SQL skills.
  • Experience using dbt.
  • Strong understanding of statistical methods, including regression, causal inference, and experimental design.
  • Experience designing and interpreting A/B tests.
  • Experience building predictive models for retention or customer engagement.
  • Knowledge of MLOps practices and model deployment pipelines.
  • Experience collaborating with CRM or lifecycle marketing teams.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop reusable data products.

  • Familiarity with Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) modeling frameworks.
  • Experience with BG/NBD modeling.
  • Experience with Pareto/NBD modeling.
  • Experience with machine learning-based CLV approaches.
