Deloitte’s Tax Digital Innovation team is a key strategic function within the tax and legal business and includes several future looking capabilities that combined, are helping to drive exciting and innovative growth opportunities. You’ll work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of industry, tax and legal SMEs, technology, and data specialists to provide specialist data science expertise and support on a diverse range of projects with both an internal and client focus.
Your role
You’ll be a Data Scientist within our expanding AI & Data Studio. The role involves working on new and existing projects and products, delivering insights to clients, and utilising data to make smarter, better decisions. You will be responsible for applying data mining techniques, undertaking statistical analysis, deploying cutting edge machine learning tools and techniques, and drawing insights and building predictive models on both structured and unstructured data. This role will involve working on the delivery of key data science driven services and transformation projects.
This role would suit someone who has a passion for keeping up to date with the latest AI research and going from theory to production. You will thrive in a creative and collaborative environment, getting to create novel AI solutions to complex business problems.

Our Tax and Legal Digital Innovation team is expanding its Data and Artificial Intelligence capabilities. The Data and AI studio supports the Tax and Legal business in researching, building, and delivering analytics and AI-driven solutions to our clients. The team has grown rapidly over the last three years in both size and breadth of services. We need high calibre and motivated individuals to continue that growth and explore market differentiating opportunities across the entire Tax and Legal business.

What you’ll be doing
- Proactively sourcing external structured and unstructured data sets to enhance services and insights
- Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis
- Performing ad-hoc analysis and presenting results from a business-centric perspective
- Building innovative models to classify and predict tax and legal data leveraging state-of-the-art machine learning and deep learning techniques
- Design, build and test data pipelines for machine learning that are reliable, scalable, and easily deployable
- Take ownership of models, from initial build through to model maintenance, avoiding performance drift over time.
- Perform constant tracking of performances
- Clearly and confidently articulate the value and benefits of delivering analytics projects to clients
- Working closely with Tax and Legal SMEs to build a deep understanding of business/client challenges and in the development of Proof of Concepts
- Share, communicate and develop bespoke AI solutions.
- Drive automation and optimisation of business workflows, helping clients to drive efficiency.

Connect to your skills and professional experience
Essential
- Strong understanding of statistical modelling, supervised/unsupervised machine learning algorithms.
- Can explain how the models work to non-technical audiences, advocating for interpretability and audit best practices.
- Experience working with structured and unstructured datasets.
- Proficient in Python, leveraging key data science libraries (NumPy, Pandas, scikit-learn) and applying object-oriented programming principles to develop efficient, scalable solutions
- Hands-on experience experimenting with Generative AI (e.g. LangChain, Hugging Face, LlamaIndex).
- Experience working with Azure data & AI services such as Azure Machine Learning, Foundry etc.
- Practical experience working in Agile environments and contributing to sprints, stand-ups and backlog refinement
- Experience writing clean, well-structured documentation for models and analytical workflows
- Familiar with version control (Git) and collaborative coding practices.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Evidence of taking R&D theoretical concepts and applying them to business scenarios as needed
Desirable
- Experience with/in:
- Microsoft Azure Data Scientist Associate (DP-100) certification or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of MLOps/DevOps concepts including model versioning, CI/CD, Automated retraining, lineage and governance.
- Experience with model risk management, Responsible AI and compliance controls in regulated industries.
- Knowledge of model evaluation, testing and reliability checks.
- Familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- Experience with data visualisation tools such as PowerBI and Tableau
- Experience deploying models into production using Azure services
- Exposure to data engineering fundamentals (e.g., data pipelines, delta lake)
- Knowledge of experience tracking tools (MLFlow, Azure ML tracking)

Tax
Our comprehensive range of services encompasses everything from the completion of tax returns (corporation tax self-assessment) to complex consultancy assignments and strategic tax planning. We advise on corporate and general tax, international M&A, stamp tax, cross-border transfer pricing, reorganisations and reconstructions, and competent authority negotiations.
