About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and commercially minded Data Science Lead to join our Data Products Leadership Team. This pivotal role offers an excellent opportunity to shape the future of Data Science within IAG Loyalty by leading a talented team of Data Scientists. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and deploying advanced machine learning models that generate measurable business value. The role involves a blend of technical leadership and strategic influence, working closely with cross-functional teams including Product Owners, Engineers, Analysts, and senior business stakeholders across Commercial, Marketing, Customer, Finance, and Digital domains. The primary focus is on translating complex business challenges into high-impact data science solutions that enhance customer engagement, improve profitability, and optimize the way members earn and spend Avios. Success in this role is determined by the tangible commercial outcomes delivered through innovative data-driven strategies and solutions.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in delivering data science solutions that create measurable commercial value.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL for developing production-ready machine learning models.
  • Experience with customer, marketing, or commercial data science use cases such as recommendation systems, experimentation, pricing, propensity modeling, or uplift modeling.
  • Excellent ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, or mentoring experience with data science teams.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based machine learning platforms, MLOps, LLMs, or AI technologies is advantageous.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks based on business impact, strategic importance, and technical complexity.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering end-to-end solutions.
  • Experience working in fast-paced environments that value rapid iteration and continuous learning.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire a team of Data Scientists, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
  • Remain hands-on in designing, developing, and deploying machine learning solutions that address key business challenges.
  • Set technical standards, review models, and ensure best practices in data science methodologies.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Engineers, Analysts, and stakeholders to identify high-value opportunities for data science applications.
  • Translate complex business problems into actionable data science use cases with clear success metrics.
  • Prioritize and manage a data science backlog aligned with strategic business goals.
  • Champion experimentation, continuous learning, and responsible AI principles within the team and organization.
  • Contribute to shaping the Data Science roadmap and influence the strategic direction of data-driven initiatives.
  • Ensure solutions deliver measurable commercial impact, including improvements in customer engagement, profitability, and operational efficiency.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and incorporate innovative techniques to maintain competitive advantage.
