About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Founding Data Scientist / Machine Learning Scientist to join a dynamic, service-based business that is building its internal data science capabilities from the ground up. This fully remote role offers the opportunity to work closely with the leadership team, shaping the data science function and establishing foundational models that will drive strategic decision-making across the organization. The successful candidate will have a significant influence on the company's analytical approach, developing scalable and robust predictive models focused initially on customer churn and complaint propensity, with potential expansion into forecasting and other predictive analytics areas.
This role is ideal for a proactive professional who thrives in an autonomous environment, takes ownership of end-to-end data science projects, and is eager to build innovative solutions from scratch. The position provides a unique chance to define how data science is integrated within the business, setting standards and practices that will be embedded and scaled across teams.

Qualifications
- Proven experience in commercial data science and machine learning, particularly in developing customer churn or propensity models.
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL for data manipulation, model development, and deployment.
- Experience taking machine learning models from conception through to production, ensuring scalability and robustness.
- Solid understanding of forecasting techniques and predictive analytics methodologies.
- Ability to independently design, document, and communicate modeling approaches and strategies.
- Experience working within subscription-based, recurring revenue, or service-led businesses is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with the Microsoft technology stack.
- Knowledge of leveraging large language models (LLMs) for analyzing unstructured or classified data is a plus.
- Strong analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills to articulate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of customer churn and complaint propensity models, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Define and document modeling methodologies, establishing best practices for scalable and repeatable data science solutions.
- Own the full lifecycle of data science projects, from data collection and cleaning to model training, evaluation, and deployment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for predictive analytics and translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Build and maintain scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to support ongoing modeling and analytics efforts.
- Monitor and validate model performance, making iterative improvements to enhance accuracy and robustness.
- Contribute to the creation of documentation, reports, and presentations to communicate insights and recommendations effectively.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data science and machine learning.
- Support the establishment of data science governance and standards within the organization.
