Data Governance Manager

Salary: Competitive
Location: Bristol, London or Edinburgh, UK
Working Arrangement: Hybrid
Hours: Full-time

Overview

Our client, a financial services organisation, is seeking a Data Governance Manager to establish, lead and continually develop its enterprise Data Governance capability.

Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer, you will own the Data Governance strategy, operating model and framework, ensuring data is managed as a trusted, secure and valuable business asset. The role offers significant influence across Information Security, Data & Analytics, Enterprise Architecture, Risk, Legal and senior leadership.

You will lead governance maturity, organisational adoption and regulatory alignment while sponsoring the development of governance technology covering metadata, lineage, data quality and automation.

Responsibilities

  • Define, implement and continually evolve the enterprise Data Governance strategy, operating model and framework.
  • Establish policies and standards covering data ownership, classification, quality, metadata, retention, lifecycle management and regulatory compliance.
  • Embed Data Governance across business functions, establishing clear accountability for Data Owners and Data Stewards.
  • Build trusted relationships with executive and senior stakeholders, influencing strategic decisions and governance priorities.
  • Establish and chair governance councils and working groups, overseeing risks, policy compliance, ownership decisions and issue resolution.
  • Define governance objectives, maturity measures and KPIs and lead continuous improvement of the organisation's governance capability.
  • Sponsor governance technology and work with technical specialists to align metadata management, data lineage, data quality and automation with business requirements.
  • Ensure Data Governance supports regulatory obligations, information security standards and organisational risk management.
  • Monitor emerging legislation, regulatory expectations, industry frameworks and data management best practice.

Requirements

  • Strong expertise in enterprise Data Governance, including strategy, operating models, frameworks, policies and organisational adoption.
  • Experience establishing accountability for data ownership, stewardship, quality, classification, retention and lifecycle management.
  • Ability to influence executive and senior stakeholders and translate regulatory and business requirements into practical governance outcomes.
  • Experience defining governance maturity measures, KPIs and continuous improvement priorities.
  • Strong understanding of metadata management, data lineage, data quality and governance technology.
  • Experience aligning Data Governance with regulatory compliance, information security and risk management.
  • Ability to analyse governance risks and organisational requirements to support strategic decision-making.
  • Strong understanding of emerging legislation, regulatory expectations and data management best practice.
