Data Support Engineer – Systematic Trading Firm | London
A leading systematic trading firm is seeking a Data Support Engineer to join a highly technical data function supporting Quantitative Researchers and Traders across the business. This is a user-facing role sitting at the intersection of data, technology, and research, offering the opportunity to work directly with sophisticated datasets and the teams that rely on them every day. You'll help users navigate data platforms, investigate data issues, improve documentation and tooling, and work closely with Data Engineering teams to maintain the quality and availability of critical datasets.
The role also offers exposure to the underlying data estate itself and strong Python usage. Ideal for a support candidate who is eager to specialise within the data domain and scale their engineering skillset.
The Role
- Act as a first point of contact for Quantitative Researchers and Traders requiring support with data access, tooling, and usage
- Investigate data issues, identifying the underlying cause and working with Data Engineers to drive resolution
- Support users across data platforms, pipelines, APIs, and associated tooling
- Assist with the onboarding of new researchers and hires, helping them understand available datasets and efficient ways of working with data
- Manage support requests through JIRA, ensuring issues are tracked, prioritised, and resolved effectively
- Develop and maintain clear documentation covering datasets, tooling, processes, and common issues
- Contribute to extending data coverage through live data collection and historical backfills
- Use Python and data-focused tooling to investigate issues and improve support workflows
- Identify recurring problems and contribute to longer-term improvements across the data environment

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
