Role Overview

This is a part-time role (3 days per week), but may have the scope to become full-time in the near future.

We are seeking an experienced and engaging Data Apprenticeship Trainer and Curriculum Developer to design, develop and deliver high-quality apprenticeship programmes aligned to the Level 3 Data Technician and Level 4 Data Analyst apprenticeship standards.

The successful candidate will create innovative learning materials, facilitate engaging workshops, coach apprentices, and support learners towards successful completion of their End Point Assessment (EPA). They will ensure curriculum content remains current, relevant and aligned to industry best practice, emerging technologies and employer requirements.

The role combines curriculum design expertise with outstanding training delivery skills and a passion for developing future talent in data and digital professions.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Development

  • Design and maintain schemes of work, lesson plans and learning resources aligned to apprenticeship standards.
  • Map curriculum content to Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs) and EPA requirements.
  • Create engaging classroom, virtual and blended learning materials.
  • Develop practical projects, case studies and workplace activities that facilitate application of learning.
  • Design formative and summative assessments to measure learner progress.
  • Ensure curriculum incorporates current industry trends including AI, data analytics, business intelligence and digital technologies.
  • Continuously improve learning content using learner, employer and quality assurance feedback.

Training Delivery

  • Deliver engaging workshops, webinars and one-to-one coaching sessions.
  • Facilitate learning across topics including:
    • Data analysis
    • Data quality and cleansing
    • Data visualisation
    • Statistics
    • Data management
    • Databases
    • Business intelligence
    • Data ethics, GDPR and security
    • AI, Machine Learning and emerging technologies
    • Communication and stakeholder engagement
  • Differentiate teaching approaches to support diverse learner needs.
  • Promote active participation and practical application of knowledge in the workplace.
  • Support apprentices to develop portfolios and evidence aligned to apprenticeship requirements.

Learner Support

  • Monitor learner progress and achievement.
  • Conduct progress reviews and provide developmental feedback.
  • Identify barriers to learning and implement interventions where necessary.
  • Support English, maths and digital skills development where appropriate.
  • Prepare learners for gateway and End Point Assessment.

Quality and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate learner records and tracking documentation.
  • Ensure delivery meets ESFA, Ofsted and awarding organisation requirements.
  • Participate in standardisation, quality assurance and curriculum review activities.
  • Contribute to self-assessment and continuous improvement activities.
  • Stay current with changes to apprenticeship standards and funding requirements.

Employer Engagement

  • Work collaboratively with employers to contextualise learning.
  • Conduct employer consultation to ensure programmes meet workforce needs.
  • Provide updates on learner progress and achievement.
  • Develop employer-facing projects and workplace application activities.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • Level 4 qualification or higher in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computing, Information Systems or related discipline.
  • Teaching qualification (AET, PTLLS, CertEd, PGCE or equivalent) or willingness to work towards one.
  • Assessor qualification or willingness to achieve.
  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent.

Essential Experience

  • Experience delivering training, teaching or apprenticeship programmes.
  • Experience developing curriculum, learning resources and assessment materials.
  • Industry experience in data analytics, business intelligence, data management or related area.
  • Experience using data tools such as:
    • Excel
    • SQL
    • Power BI
    • Tableau
    • Python or R
    • Data visualisation platforms
  • Experience supporting learners through achievement and progression.

Essential Knowledge

  • Knowledge of:
    • Data analytics lifecycle.
    • Data collection, cleansing and validation.
    • Data visualisation techniques.
    • Statistical analysis.
    • Database concepts and structures.
    • GDPR and data protection legislation.
    • Data ethics and information governance.

  • IQA qualification.
  • Experience delivering Data Technician or Data Analyst apprenticeships.
  • Experience using Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Services or cloud technologies.
  • Experience preparing learners for Ofsted-inspected programmes.
  • Membership of a professional body such as BCS.
