Database Administrator

Location: Derby (Hybrid - 2 days per week onsite)

Contract: October 2026 - May 2027

Security Clearance: BPSS required to start. Active SC Clearance required due to data migration activities commencing in November 2026.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DB2) to support a major enterprise technology transformation programme involving large-scale database migration, optimisation, and platform modernisation activities.

This is a hands-on role focused on DB2 administration, Oracle-to-DB2 migration, performance tuning, security, and operational support. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of critical database environments during a significant upgrade and migration programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Oracle-to-DB2 migration activities, ensuring smooth transition and minimal business disruption.
  • Install, configure, administer, and support DB2 database environments.
  • Refactor and migrate Oracle PL/SQL stored procedures for DB2 compatibility.
  • Develop and execute database migration strategies, plans, and validation activities.
  • Perform performance monitoring, tuning, and optimisation of DB2 environments.
  • Design and manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Support database security, compliance, and governance requirements.
  • Troubleshoot database issues and provide root cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and project teams throughout migration and deployment activities.
  • Ensure database standards, operational procedures, and documentation are maintained.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience delivering Oracle-to-DB2 database migrations.
  • Strong DB2 administration experience within enterprise environments.
  • Experience with DB2 installation, configuration, and ongoing support.
  • Strong performance tuning and optimisation skills.
  • Experience planning and executing backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Expertise in database security, access controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience converting or refactoring Oracle PL/SQL procedures for DB2 environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis capabilities.
  • Experience supporting business-critical production database platforms.
