About The Role
We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator with expertise in PostgreSQL and Oracle to join our growing technology team. This role is pivotal in supporting and enhancing our database environment as part of an ongoing platform modernization initiative. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing day-to-day database operations, optimizing performance, and supporting strategic projects aimed at evolving our database infrastructure. The position offers a unique opportunity to influence database strategy within a modern engineering framework, incorporating DevOps practices, automation, and cloud integration.
The role is flexible in terms of location, with options for remote work based in the UK, occasional travel to Kettering and customer sites may be required. This position is ideal for a proactive professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to contribute to a major modernization programme while supporting existing systems.

- Proven experience in performance tuning, troubleshooting, and database support in production environments.
- A strong understanding of backup and recovery processes, high availability, replication, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Experience with Linux administration and supporting infrastructure is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills, stakeholder engagement, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
Advantageous qualifications include:
- Relevant certifications.
- Hands-on experience with cloud database services (AWS or Azure).
- Familiarity with automation tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
- Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code.
Responsibilities
- Administer and support PostgreSQL and Oracle databases, with a primary focus on PostgreSQL, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Monitor database health, troubleshoot issues, and implement performance improvements.
- Design, implement, and maintain high availability, replication, backup, and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Perform database upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management activities to keep systems current and secure.
- Support database migration projects, including moving from Oracle to PostgreSQL, as part of platform modernization efforts.
- Maintain strict database security protocols, access controls, and compliance standards to safeguard sensitive data.
- Investigate and resolve production issues promptly, minimizing downtime and impact on business operations.
- Collaborate closely with development, infrastructure, and support teams to deliver technical enhancements and operational efficiencies.
- Contribute to automation initiatives, CI/CD pipelines, and continuous improvement processes to streamline database management.
- Produce comprehensive technical documentation, operational procedures, and best practices for database management.
