Senior Database Administrator
Senior Database Administrator (DBA) required to join a long-term contract, supporting the design, optimisation, and maintenance of critical AWS-hosted database platforms. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced DBA with strong AWS Aurora, Amazon RDS, and PostgreSQL expertise to deliver secure, scalable, and highly available database solutions within a complex enterprise environment.
Candidates must hold active SC Clearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and support enterprise database solutions on AWS
- Develop and maintain database schemas, data models, and indexing strategies
- Optimise database performance through SQL tuning and configuration improvements
- Manage backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery processes
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production database issues
- Perform data reconciliation and integrity validation
- Manage database upgrades, patching, monitoring, and security
- Collaborate with developers, cloud engineers, and technical teams to deliver resilient database platforms
- Produce and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures

- Active SC Clearance (essential)
- Strong experience with AWS Aurora, Amazon RDS, and PostgreSQL
- Proven background in database architecture and solution design
- Expertise in SQL development, query optimisation, and performance tuning
- Experience designing and supporting highly available database environment
- Knowledge of backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery
- Experience troubleshooting production database environments
- Familiarity with AWS services including IAM, CloudWatch, KMS, VPC, and Secrets Manager
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation) and CI/CD practices
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
