About The Role

We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator with expertise in PostgreSQL and Oracle to join our client's dynamic Systems team. This role is pivotal in supporting and modernizing the company's database infrastructure as they transition towards a PostgreSQL-led environment while maintaining support for existing Oracle databases. The successful candidate will be instrumental in managing day-to-day database operations, optimizing performance, and implementing platform improvements aligned with the company's strategic goals.

The position offers a diverse range of responsibilities, including:

  • Supporting infrastructure projects
  • Performing upgrades, migrations, and enhancing database security
  • Influencing the company's database strategy within a modern engineering environment that embraces DevOps practices and automation

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in database administration, particularly with PostgreSQL and Oracle. They should demonstrate experience in performance tuning, troubleshooting, and implementing high availability and disaster recovery solutions. Knowledge of Linux administration and experience supporting production environments are essential. Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving are also important qualities for success in this role.

Relevant qualifications may include certifications in database management, Linux administration, or cloud services. Experience with automation tools, cloud platforms, and infrastructure as code will be considered advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and support PostgreSQL and Oracle databases, with an emphasis on PostgreSQL, ensuring optimal performance and availability.
  • Monitor database health, troubleshoot issues, and implement performance improvements.
  • Design, maintain, and test high availability, replication, backup, and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and minimal downtime.
  • Perform routine database upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management activities to keep systems current and secure.
  • Support database migration projects, including transitioning from Oracle to PostgreSQL, as part of the platform modernization initiatives.
  • Maintain strict database security protocols, access controls, and compliance standards to safeguard sensitive information.
  • Investigate and resolve production database issues promptly, minimizing impact on business operations.
  • Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and support teams to implement technical improvements and automation initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of technical documentation, operational procedures, and best practices.
