Database Administrator (PostgreSQL / Oracle)
Location: UK-based | Remote / Hybrid | Occasional travel to Kettering and customer sites
About the Role
We're working with a growing technology business that develops warehouse management and automation solutions for customers across the logistics sector.
As part of an ongoing platform modernisation programme, the organisation is evolving towards a PostgreSQL-led environment while continuing to support a number of Oracle databases. They're looking for a Database Administrator to join the Systems team and play a key role in both day-to-day database operations and longer-term platform improvements.
This is a varied role offering a mix of BAU support, performance optimisation, upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure projects. You'll have the opportunity to influence database strategy while working with modern engineering and DevOps practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and support PostgreSQL and Oracle databases, with a primary focus on PostgreSQL
- Monitor, troubleshoot and optimise database performance
- Design and maintain high availability, replication, backup and disaster recovery solutions
- Perform database upgrades, patching and lifecycle management activities
- Support database migration and platform modernisation initiatives
- Maintain database security, access controls and compliance standards
- Investigate and resolve production issues in business-critical environments
- Work closely with development, infrastructure and support teams to deliver technical improvements
- Contribute to automation, CI/CD and continuous improvement initiatives
- Produce and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures

About You
Required Experience
- Strong PostgreSQL administration experience
- Working knowledge of Oracle database support and administration
- Experience with performance tuning, optimisation and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of replication, high availability and disaster recovery solutions
- Strong understanding of backup and recovery processes
- Linux administration experience
- Experience supporting production database environments
- A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Desirable Experience
- Oracle to PostgreSQL migration projects
- AWS and/or Azure database services
- Infrastructure as Code and automation tools such as Terraform or Ansible
- DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
- Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket or similar tooling
- Broader infrastructure, networking or Linux administration experience
