About the Role
As a Database Engineer, you'll join our Cloud & Infrastructure team, supporting the administration, maintenance and continuous improvement of database services that underpin critical business systems.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your database administration expertise while working with modern technologies in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Working under established governance and best practice frameworks, you'll help ensure database services remain secure, available and performant across operational and development environments.
You will contribute to backup and recovery activities, performance monitoring, planned change implementation and service improvement initiatives, whilst developing the technical skills needed to progress into more advanced database administration responsibilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the installation, configuration, administration, monitoring and maintenance of database platforms and associated software.
- Assisting with database upgrades, patching activities and configuration management.
- Monitoring database performance, service health and system alerts, escalating issues where appropriate.
- Supporting backup, recovery and disaster recovery activities, including testing and validation exercises.
- Assisting with capacity planning and resource management activities to support future service growth.
- Contributing to the delivery of planned database changes, ensuring work is documented, tested and aligned to agreed standards.
- Maintaining technical documentation, operational procedures and knowledge resources.
- Working with suppliers, project teams and technical colleagues to investigate issues and support service improvements.
- Supporting business-critical applications and participating in out-of-hours support arrangements as skills and experience develop.
- Ensuring all work is carried out in line with information security, data handling and compliance requirements.

We're looking for a technically minded individual with a passion for technology and a desire to develop a career in database engineering. You may already have experience in a database, infrastructure, technical support or application support environment and be keen to build on your existing skills.
You will have a strong understanding of database principles and a desire to build your expertise in database administration. You'll be analytical and detail-oriented, with the ability to investigate issues, interpret technical information and contribute to effective problem resolution.
You'll be comfortable working collaboratively with colleagues, suppliers and stakeholders, while maintaining a proactive approach to learning and continuous professional development. Strong communication skills, a customer-focused mindset and a commitment to maintaining the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information are essential.
Please note this role will require a DBS to be completed prior to employment.
