Database Engineer (MongoDB / PostgreSQL)
We are hiring on behalf of a global technology company. They combine advanced computing, digital innovation, and deep scientific expertise to solve some of the hardest problems in natural resources, energy transition, and infrastructure. Put simply, this is a business where the data is the product, and the volumes involved are enormous.
That means the database platform here is not a back office function. It sits directly underneath global production systems and one of the more substantial high performance computing environments in the UK.
The role
You will own and evolve the MongoDB and relational database estate that supports those platforms. It is a hands on, engineering led position rather than a traditional production DBA seat, so there is real scope to build, automate, and improve rather than just keep the lights on.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
