Databricks Platform Engineer (Contract)
Location: London
Hybrid: 2 days onsite per week
Rate: DOE - Inside IR35
Duration: 6 months, extension likely
Start: 16th November
The role
Our client needs a specialist Databricks Platform Engineer to own the foundations of their enterprise Lakehouse. You’ll be responsible for deploying, securing, automating and governing the platform at scale. This is a core platform role, not a data engineering one.
Responsibilities
- Deploy Databricks workspaces on Azure and AWS with private networking (Private Link, VNet/VPC injection, serverless NCCs)
- Build and manage the platform as code with the Databricks Terraform provider and Asset Bundles
- Set up Unity Catalog at account level, plus identity integration (SCIM, Entra ID / IAM, service principals)
- Apply security controls (customer managed keys, IP access lists, audit logging) and compute governance (cluster policies, budget policies, DBU cost tracking)
- Monitor the platform using system tables and lead incident response

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
