About The Job
The job is situated in the Kettering Production Plant, where plant-based alternatives to milk are made. The job is situated within the Maintenance department. The Maintenance and Engineering department at the Kettering Production Plant is responsible for all maintenance works within the entire Production and Logistics departments.
The production equipment and plants include, soya processing equipment, storage tanks, formulation equipment, steam supplies, sterilisers, filling machines, packaging lines including corresponding shut-off and control valves, etc.
The job holder’s responsibilities within the Maintenance department are three-fold. On the one hand, the job holder is responsible for performing Planned and reactive work, periodical inspections so that malfunctions, defects and/or unsafe situations are identified in time and lead the corrective actions. On the other hand, the job holder is responsible for executing scheduled maintenance works and for assisting in (part of the) modification and/or new construction works on equipment and plants. Finally, the job holder is responsible for repairing breakdowns on the production lines to minimise downtime and quality defects whilst working safely always. The job holder must undertake small CI projects, lead and drive 5S tasks, Calibrations, documentation updates and be active in the RCA process. Given the comprehensive working area, the job holder must have a broad knowledge of various technical disciplines. The job holder’s works are situated both in the production plant and in the technical workshop.

There can be an occasional need to attend to the services area.
For the execution of the work, the job holder predominantly works alone in the field. If necessary, the job holder can ask their day and shift colleagues for assistance. For executing more specialist technical works, internal or external experts are appealed to. While executing his works, the job holder must always strictly observe the prevailing safety instructions. The job holder works in a Monday to Friday role. However, could be asked to work the 2’s and 3’s shift system if requested by the business.
The position is a day role working a shift pattern of 8.5 hr days 0800 to 1626 (the shift pattern may be subject to change given prior notice)

Criteria for assessing results
Performing preventative inspection tours
- Performing preventative inspection tours along production facilities/plants, including inspections of equipment, etc.
- Assessing the state of maintenance using checklists and own expertise and noting down findings.
- Reporting of findings to the Equipment Performance Responsibility and the Engineering Team Leader, indicating nature and severity.
- Reporting (imminent) defects to the Engineering Team Leader, repairing (imminent) defects on the spot insofar as possible
Execution of scheduled maintenance works
- Maintaining plant equipment whilst following equipment manufacturers guidelines or relevant standard operating procedures.
- Executing mechanical maintenance works on pneumatic, mechanical and hydraulic parts, also adjusting high-precision components and such using (hand) tools, welding equipment, etc.
- Executing maintenance works on electric and (to a limited extent) control technology equipment, for instance setting of control devices, etc.
- Carrying out corrective maintenance following preventative inspections at scheduled moments in time
- Informing production workers on the progress of maintenance works.
- Assisting production workers when starting up equipment/plants (after maintenance works).
- Consultation with the Equipment Performance Responsibility and the Engineering Team Leader in case of difficulties and if more specialist interventions appear necessary (e.g. concerning control technology).
- Quality of maintenance works.
- Quality of repairs.
- Satisfaction of internal customer.
- Timeliness of engaging other professional disciplines.

Remedying mechanical and electrical failures & defects in production equipment
- Taking cognizance of breakdowns, usually directly by phone.
- Locating the failures and their causes at the respective equipment, if applicable using test and measuring equipment; this may also include (dis)assembling (parts of) equipment/plants, if needed using scissor lift.
- Assessing the nature and scope of failures and if it is necessary/possible to repair them immediately or create a notification.
- Requesting/gathering the necessary tools and parts in the technical warehouse according to the relevant procedures, if needed using scissor lift.
- Carrying out common mechanical or electrical repairs on site using different (hand) tools.
- Execution of corrective maintenance works.
- Consultation with the Engineering Team Leader in case of difficulties and if more specialist interventions appear necessary (e.g. concerning control technology).
- Informing Production on the progress of repair works.
- Having the priorities set by Production in case of more than one failure notification at the same time.
- Correct diagnoses of the cause of failures.
Preparation and co-execution of modification and/or new construction works on equipment and plants
- Analysis of (structural) technical failures and/or defects
- Formulating proposals for improvement to the Engineering Team Leader concerning modification and/or new construction works on equipment and plants.
- Setting up a preliminary inquiry retrieving information from (potential) suppliers on equipment, parts, etc.; gathering quotations and drawing up a cost estimate for the Engineering Team Leader.
- Participating in preparatory meetings with the various parties involved, including Production, Projects etc.
- On-site execution of modification and/or new construction works at scheduled moments in time.
- Initiating tests; taking or ordering the necessary safety measures; analysing the results and consulting with the various parties involved and with the Engineering Team Leader.
- Acting as guide and contact person for external specialist technicians during their on-site works.
- Escalating to the Engineering Team Leader in case of difficulties/deviations.
- Correct analysis of technical situations

Execution of various job-related activities
- Exchanging information about the previous shift during team handovers, also in writing via SAP.

About You
Candidate profile (leadership & functional competencies)
Knowledge
- Applied knowledge of mechanical engineering, electricity and electromechanical engineering.
- Applied knowledge of the operation and construction of production equipment.
- Applied knowledge of standard and company-specific software (including SAP and Microsoft Office).
- Knowledge of rules and procedures in the areas of safety, quality, food safety, good manufacturing practices, human resources, and environmental protection.
- Applied knowledge of cooling technology, pneumatics, hydraulics, including an understanding of electronics and control technology.
- In-depth knowledge of departmental KPIs.
- Understanding and knowledge of problem-solving techniques.
Technical
- Time served and qualified maintenance engineer. Multi-skilled preferred or prepared to work towards. If electrical bias, 18th edition qualified is preferable.
- City and guilds or NVQ3 qualified in an engineering or maintenance discipline
- PC basic skills (MS Excel, MS Word, SAP)
- Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies
- Knowledge of safe working practices
- Hygiene standards in a food environment
- At least 3 years in similar environment
- A knowledge of automated process equipment and control systems
- Knowledge of sterilisation and filling processes e.g. SPX, Alpha Laval
- A knowledge of Tetra Pak, Mariani or similar machines

- Consulting with the Engineering Team Leader on the execution of works.
- Escalating to the Engineering Team Leader in case of difficulties/deviations.
- Exchanging information about the previous shift during team handover, also in writing via SAP.

The job holder should be physically fit as the role requires lots of walking, climbing and lifting.
