Viridor is at the forefront of waste management and resource recovery in the UK, operating the largest network of Energy Recovery Facilities (ERFs). We play a crucial role in supporting the UK's climate goals by diverting waste from landfills and transforming it into valuable energy resources.
We have an opportunity in Avonmouth for a Day Shift Team Leader to join our team working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
The salary for this role will be £65,363 per year, and participation in an annual bonus scheme, in addition to our great range of benefits.

Role Overview
As Day Shift Team Leader, you'll provide leadership and direction to the day operations team and take responsibility for the safe and effective operation of key areas of the facility, including the Tipping Hall, IBA Hall and Weighbridge.
Safety will be central to everything you do. You'll act as a Senior Authorised Person (SAP), or work towards achieving SAP status, helping to maintain robust Safe Systems of Work across the facility.
Responsibilities
- Leading, supporting and developing the day shift operations team.
- Ensuring all activities are carried out safely and in accordance with SHEQ requirements and site procedures.
- Supervising operations across the Tipping Hall, IBA Hall and Weighbridge.
- Prioritising workloads to maximise plant efficiency, availability, waste input and energy output.
- Managing Safe Systems of Work and issuing relevant permits and safety documentation.
- Carrying out risk assessments and supporting the continued improvement of safe working practices.
- Coordinating contractors and ensuring visitors and contractors receive appropriate site safety and emergency inductions.
- Managing the delivery of process consumables and collection of operational by-products.
- Ensuring the facility operates within its environmental permit requirements.
- Supporting incident reporting, investigations and emergency preparedness, including acting as Incident Controller when required.
- Coordinating training and competency requirements for the Day Shift Team.
- Managing team performance, development, absence and shift cover.
- Leading regular team briefings and ensuring effective communication across the operation.
- Identifying and driving continuous improvement opportunities across safety, training, housekeeping and operational performance.
- Supporting the Operations Manager and providing cover when required.
- Managing mobile plant activities, including daily checks, defect management and statutory inspections.

Requirements
Essential
- Previous experience within a process, power generation or similar industrial environment.
- Experience working with Safe Systems of Work, including Permits to Work and associated safety documentation.
- A good understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements within a process or power environment.
- An engineering qualification, ideally ONC/HNC or equivalent.
- A relevant safety qualification, ideally IOSH or NEBOSH.
- Strong leadership, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to deliver team briefings, detailed handovers and concise reports.
- Good IT skills and experience working with computerised systems.
Desirable
- Previous experience coordinating or supervising operational teams and contractors.
- Knowledge of environmental permitting requirements within an industrial environment.
- Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Previous Senior Authorised Person (SAP) experience covering mechanical, HV and LV electrical safety.

If you don't already hold full SAP authorisation, you'll be expected to work towards achieving SAP status for both LV plant and apparatus and HV authorisations.
