Daytime GCSE Maths Tutor
Face-to-face tuition for students outside mainstream education
Tutor Doctor Bolton West / Greater Manchester
Tutor Doctor Bolton West is looking for reliable, confident and adaptable GCSE Maths tutors to support students who are currently not in mainstream education. This may include students who are home-schooled, receiving EOTAS-style support, or attending an Alternative Provision setting. The work will primarily be face-to-face during the daytime, so this role is particularly suited to tutors with weekday availability.
This is not an online-only role. Some online support may be possible where appropriate, but the core requirement is the ability and willingness to travel to students or settings in and around the Bolton area.
About the role
You will provide one-to-one GCSE Maths tuition to students who need personalised support outside a standard school timetable.
Students may be working towards GCSE Maths, resits, Functional Skills, foundation skills, or confidence-building before returning to more formal education. Some students may have missed significant learning, have anxiety around school, have SEND needs, or require a slower, calmer and more flexible approach than they would receive in a classroom.
The role may involve working with students:
- at home
- in an Alternative Provision setting
- in a community or education setting
- during normal school/daytime hours
- occasionally online where agreed
Key responsibilities
As a Tutor Doctor Maths tutor, you will be expected to:
- deliver personalised GCSE Maths tuition face-to-face
- identify gaps in knowledge and understanding
- rebuild confidence in Maths
- explain concepts clearly and patiently
- adapt sessions to the student’s learning style and current confidence level
- use exam-style questions where appropriate
- support students with revision, exam technique and problem-solving
- help students work towards GCSE, resit or functional Maths goals
- provide clear feedback after sessions
- communicate professionally with Tutor Doctor and, where appropriate, families/settings
- record sessions and reports through Tutor Doctor systems
- maintain appropriate safeguarding and professional boundaries

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
