Job Description
Anticipated Contract End Date/Length: 12 months
Work Set Up: Hybrid (3 days per week onsite, mandatory)
Clearance Required: BPSS
Our client in the Information Technology and Services industry is looking for a Db2 System Programmer to support Db2 for z/OS activities, ensuring the performance, integrity, maintenance, and security of the UK database estate. The role will work as part of a team supporting 50+ Db2 subsystems across multiple mainframes and geographies.
What you will do:
- Install and test new versions of Db2 and provide continuous delivery of maintenance for Db2 and associated tooling.
- Support and manage distributed Db2 connections across multiple mainframes and geographies.
- Engineer solutions that exploit automation and maintain the stability and integrity of the CICS Db2 OLTP environment.
- Plan and maintain databases, perform capacity planning, and monitor database performance.
- Ensure storage and archiving procedures function correctly and provide fast responses to front-end users.
- Manage database security and disaster recovery, including developing, managing, and testing backup and recovery plans.
- Communicate with technical, application, and operational teams to maintain database integrity and security.
- Establish user requirements and monitor user access and security.
- Provide development and production support, including troubleshooting and incident management activities.
- Apply Agile practices and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and customers.
- Keep up to date with new technology developments and maintain a commitment to continuing professional development.
- Apply awareness of information legislation, including GDPR, to database activities.

Qualifications
- Possess significant experience as a z/OS Systems Specialist with strong Db2 expertise.
- Have hands-on experience with Db2 production support, software maintenance, performance tuning, and application support.
- Demonstrate familiarity with main data manipulation languages and database design principles.
- Possess strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, teamwork, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Work effectively to tight deadlines and under pressure.
- Show flexibility, adaptability, business awareness, and understanding of IT business requirements.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and customers.
- Have programming experience; REXX or COBOL is preferred.
- Hold a degree in Computer Science, Computer Software or Systems Engineering, Electronics, Information Technology, Mathematics, Operational Research, or possess significant relevant industry experience.
- Have experience with Agile practices and incident management.
- Demonstrate an understanding of information legislation, including GDPR.
