Smartedge’s Client is looking for an individual to help with their DB2 System Programmer@Sheffield, UK (Hybrid Working)

Role Description:

As a Db2 system programmer you will be responsible for Db2 for z/OS activities ensuring the performance, integrity, maintenance and security of our UK database estate. You will be required to work as part of a team which support 50+ Db2 subsystems across multiple mainframes and geographies.

As a Db2 for z/OS specialist, you’ll need to:

  • Install and test new versions Db2
  • Continuous delivery of maintenance for Db2 and tooling
  • Support and management of distributed Db2 connections
  • Engineering solutions to exploit automation
  • Stability and integrity of a highly responsive OLTP (CICS) Db2 environment
  • Planning and maintenance of databases
  • Capacity planning
  • Ensure that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly
  • Monitor performance
  • Provide fast responses to front-end users
  • Manage the security and disaster recovery aspects of a database
  • Develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans
  • Communicate regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security
  • Establish the needs of users and monitor user access/security
  • Development and production support
  • Troubleshooting activities

Qualifications

You can enter this career with a degree in any subject or significant relevant industry experience, but the following is preferable:

  • Computer science
  • Computer software/computer systems engineering
  • Electronics
  • Information Technology
  • Mathematics
  • Operational research

Work experience

  • Experience of working as a z/OS Systems Specialist with significant skills in the Db2 arena
  • Db2 production support
  • Db2 software maintenance
  • Db2 performance tuning
  • Db2 application support
  • Programming skills (REXX/Cobol preferable)
