Dealership Accountant - Motor Trade - Wakefield
About The Role
Riverside Motor Group is looking for a motivated Dealership Accountant to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Accounts Assistant who is ready to take the next step in their career and build their expertise within an established motor retail group.
You will play a key role in preparing accurate management accounts, monitoring financial performance and supporting the efficient financial operation of our Honda and Chery dealerships. The role will be primarily based at our Wakefield Honda dealership, with occasional travel to our Head Office in Doncaster when required.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience as an Assistant Accountant within the motor retail industry (essential)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good Excel and Microsoft Office skills
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines
- Strong organisational skills
Key Responsibilities
- Take increasing responsibility for preparing accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including departmental and site results.
- Review financial performance across dealership departments, providing analysis against budget, forecast and prior year.
- Prepare and post month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments and provisions, and support the submission of manufacturer composites.
- Complete balance sheet, bank, vehicle stock and statement reconciliations, investigating and resolving any discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate purchase and sales ledgers, monitor aged balances, and support inter-company and inter-departmental accounting.
- Work closely with dealership management, providing clear financial information and practical support on gross profit, overheads, departmental performance and key financial KPIs.
- Monitor new and used vehicle purchases and sales, ensuring financial records and transactions remain accurate and up to date.
- Assist with year-end accounts, external audit requirements, stock checks, annual budgets, periodic forecasts and ad-hoc finance projects.

About You
- Current or previous experience at Assistant Accountant or Senior Accounts Assistant level, ideally within the motor trade, with a good understanding of management accounts and month-end processes.
- Strong Excel skills, with experience completing balance sheet reconciliations and analysing departmental financial performance.
- Highly organised and numerically accurate, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently, contribute to the wider accounts team and meet strict monthly reporting deadlines.
- A strong communicator with a proactive, problem-solving approach.
