Salary: £26.44 umbrella / £23.33 PAYE Inclusive / £20.82 PAYE Exclusive

Job Description
Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a local authority in London for a Debt Recovery Officer to join the team on a temporary basis. The postholder will recover and enforce collection for a variety of debts, including Housing Benefit Overpayments, in an efficient and objective manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of debts including Council Tax, Parking and Road Traffic, Housing Benefit Overpayments, Adult Social Care and Sundry Debt, using appropriate recovery and enforcement methods.
- Take ownership of cases from initial contact through to payment, including negotiating repayment arrangements, monitoring defaults and progressing appropriate legal enforcement action.
- Provide professional advice and assistance to customers, responding to telephone, written and electronic enquiries, complaints and complex casework while maintaining a customer-focused approach.
- Liaise with legal services, enforcement agents, debt collection agencies and other stakeholders, maintaining accurate records and producing reports to support effective debt recovery and service performance.

Candidate Criteria
- Proven experience within debt recovery, revenues, enforcement or a similar environment, with a good understanding of relevant recovery processes and procedures.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to deal professionally and sensitively with distressed, challenging or vulnerable customers.
- Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience of managing competing priorities, making sound decisions and working effectively under pressure.
- Good IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office and a range of IT systems, alongside the ability to interpret legislation, policies and procedures and explain them clearly to customers.
