Role Description
The Decarbonisation Adviser is a temporary, on-site role based in Wales, United Kingdom, focused on supporting businesses to reduce their carbon emissions and improve sustainability performance. Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Assessing clients’ current energy use and carbon footprint
- Identifying practical decarbonisation opportunities
- Developing action plans tailored to SMEs and entrepreneurs
- Providing one-to-one advice
- Delivering workshops or group sessions on low-carbon practices
- Signposting businesses to relevant funding, technical support, and partnership opportunities

- Collaborating closely with internal teams and external stakeholders
- Contributing to reporting and compliance for funded programmes
- Ensuring that advice is accessible, inclusive, and aligned with Welsh and UK climate policies
Qualifications
- Knowledge of decarbonisation, energy efficiency, and low-carbon technologies, with the ability to interpret and apply Welsh and UK sustainability policies and regulations.
- Experience in business advisory or consultancy, particularly supporting SMEs with strategic planning, operational improvement, or sustainability initiatives.
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to assess carbon footprints, review energy data, and translate findings into clear recommendations and action plans.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear, engaging way to diverse audiences in workshops and one-to-one settings.
- Proven ability to build and manage stakeholder relationships across public, private, and third sectors, and to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Organisational and project management skills, including managing a caseload of clients, meeting deadlines, and producing accurate records and reports.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusive business support, with sensitivity to the needs of different communities and business types.
- Relevant qualification or equivalent experience in sustainability, environmental management, energy, business, or a related field; professional accreditation in a low-carbon or energy discipline is an advantage.
- Familiarity with Welsh economic development and enterprise support programmes is beneficial, along with the ability to work on-site.
