What to Expect

This role is a key enabler of McLaren Automotive’s sustainability agenda, leading the corporate decarbonisation programme and product life cycle emission reduction initiatives to ensure current and future compliance and competitiveness. You will report the McLaren’s Sustainability Manager.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate across the business to collect Scope 1, 2 and 3 emission data on an annual basis
  • Support the reporting of this data internally and externally through the annual sustainability report and mandatory reporting requirements (e.g. Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting)
  • Identify CO2 hotspots and opportunities in collaboration with innovation, engineering and wider sustainability team for both product and wider business GHG emissions
  • Lead and support CO2 reduction action plans through collaboration with engineering and procurement teams to hit vehicle level and material targets
  • For new vehicle programmes, benchmark McLaren Automotive products against the core competitors with support from sustainability business partners
  • For new vehicle programmes, collect, calculate and track embedded carbon footprint data for vehicle components to support a vehicle level Life Cycle Assessment
  • Support the circularity and responsible sourcing leads to execute any cross-functional sustainability initiatives that align to the McLaren sustainability direction including regulations and reporting requirements (e.g CBAM, EU Deforestation Regulation)
  • Be the point of expertise for decarbonisation and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) queries for the McLaren Automotive business

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or a related discipline, with at least 3 years sustainability experience in an industrial environment, is preferred. Alternatively, a degree in Sustainability and Environmental Management, Environmental Science, or a related field, with at least 3 years of industrial experience and the ability to work confidently across engineering, technical, and industrial topics, is also preferred.
  • Professional or academic experience of Scope 1, 2 and 3 data collection and evaluation
  • Professional or academic experience of LCA modelling including previous use of LCA tools such as GaBi, SimaPro or other LCA calculation methods as well as familiarity with material and process emission factor databases (e.g EcoInvent)
  • Familiarity with LCA and Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) related standards including but not limited to ISO 14040/44, GHG Protocol and ISO14067
  • Confident working with large and complex data sets and database systems
  • Independent, proactive and motivated to deliver real tangible change.
  • Personable with strong communication and relationship building capabilities across all levels of the business
  • A multi-tasker who successfully prioritises and executes against tight deadlines in a fast past environment
  • Courageous and ambitious - has a ‘can-do’ attitude and willingness to find a way when encountering obstacles or setbacks.
  • Effective team player, understanding and balancing other function group prioritises and arriving at a solution that is the most beneficial compromise to all business targets
  • Pioneering – constantly challenging self and others to identify areas for continuous improvement.
  • Networks - develops collaborative partnerships with internal / external stakeholders.
  • Influential - with a passion for creating an inclusive work environment.
