About The Role
Are you looking to apply your analytical and problem-solving skills in a dynamic, data-driven environment? Hampshire Trust Bank is offering a 13-month internship designed to immerse you in real-world Credit Risk Analytics, Risk Reporting, Model Validation, and Credit Risk Modelling projects that help solve business problems and shape decision-making across the bank.
You’ll work in small, collaborative teams where your voice matters and your curiosity is celebrated. Whether you're passionate about data science, financial services, or enjoy solving problems, this internship will help you grow your skills and confidence.
Great analysts don't just understand data. They understand the people, priorities, and decisions behind it. This internship will help you develop both technical expertise and commercial understanding.
You’ll be joining a supportive team where learning is encouraged, and each intern will have an individual mentor to help them develop.
You'll work on real business challenges, applying analytical thinking to support decision-making across the bank.
The proposed start-date for the internship is June 2027.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Producing analysis that helps shape real business decisions across the bank.
- Learning from experienced professionals in a supportive environment.
- Working with colleagues across different teams to solve business challenges.
- Analysing customer and product data to support decision-making.
- Partnering with stakeholders and producing key reports for internal and external audiences.
- Validating financial models to ensure accuracy and reliability.

What You Will Learn
- Working collaboratively across teams within a professional financial services environment.
- Understanding the business context, priorities, and challenges that shape analytical work.
- Communicating analytical findings in ways that are relevant and useful to different stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
- Using statistical and analytical techniques to identify patterns, trends, and insights within data.
- Applying risk assessment and model validation techniques.
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from students of all backgrounds and are especially keen to hear from those who are underrepresented in financial services and data science.
You’ll Thrive If You Are
- Studying a degree that helps you develop quantitative or logical reasoning skills - this could be in STEM, Economics, or any other discipline with a strong analytical component.
- Organised, self-motivated, eager to learn, and keen to apply your academic knowledge to real-world financial challenges.
- A clear communicator who can explain complex ideas in simple terms.
- Comfortable working with numbers and keen to develop your skills in data analysis and risk assessment.
- Detail-oriented, curious, and rigorous.
- Experienced using Excel and familiar with at least one programming language.
- Willing to learn SAS (Statistical Analysis System) – you’ll be fully supported by professionals.
- A methodical problem-solver who uses logic and analysis to reach sound conclusions.
- Able to spot patterns and trends in data and use them to support clear, evidence-based decisions.
