Power Station Decommissioning Lead

Location: Hybrid with flexibility to be based from any Rolls-Royce SMR location, including Warrington, Derby or Manchester.

Our Mission

At Rolls-Royce SMR, we're delivering a new generation of low-carbon nuclear power that will help secure the world's energy future. By combining proven nuclear technology with innovative engineering and advanced manufacturing, we're creating a cleaner, more affordable and sustainable source of energy for generations to come.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping the entire lifecycle of our power station design, ensuring that decommissioning considerations are embedded from day one and supporting the delivery of a truly world-class nuclear programme.

The Team

You'll join a specialist team within the Engineering Directorate responsible for ensuring decommissioning principles are integrated across the Rolls-Royce SMR Power Station design. Working alongside a small team of subject matter experts, you'll collaborate closely with design, safety, environmental and systems engineering teams to influence critical decisions across the programme.

This is a highly visible role with regular engagement across the business, regulators, customers and external stakeholders.

The Role

As Power Station Decommissioning Lead, you will be the technical authority for decommissioning within the Engineering Directorate, championing a design-for-decommissioning approach across the Rolls-Royce SMR programme. You'll develop and evolve decommissioning strategies, influence engineering decisions and provide technical leadership to ensure the power station can be safely dismantled at the end of its operational life.

What We'll Need You to Do

  • Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of decommissioning strategies that support the safe and efficient end-of-life dismantling of the Rolls-Royce SMR Power Station.
  • Act as the engineering lead for decommissioning, ensuring design-for-decommissioning principles are embedded throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to identify, manage and reduce decommissioning risks and waste generation.
  • Develop practical assessment methodologies, technical guidance and supporting documentation for programme decision-making.
  • Produce and oversee high-quality technical reports and assessments supporting regulatory submissions and programme milestones.
  • Build trusted relationships with regulators, customers and key stakeholders, providing technically credible advice.
  • Drive adoption of industry best practice, emerging technologies and innovative approaches to enhance future decommissioning capability.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
