Job Summary
Position: Decontamination Technicians, Band 2
Locations: St James’s Hospital (SJH) and Leeds General Infirmary sites (LGI)
We are looking to appoint 1 enthusiastic, self-motivated, flexible, reliable, and well-organised individual to join our friendly and hardworking team of 16 Decontamination Technicians based at the Endoscopy Decontamination Service (EDS).
The successful candidates will advocate the Trust's values and behaviours and demonstrate that they are able to work as a part of a team in a fast-paced environment which requires multi-tasking and the ability to work in a flexible manner to meet the changing needs of the service.
The EDS provides a continuous service to our users throughout the Trust 7 days a week.
Hours: 37.5hrs per week
Shifts:
- 1: 07.00-15.00 Monday - Friday
- 2: 10.00-18.00 /18.30 Monday - Friday (Shift patterns are currently under review and may change to meet the future needs of the service)
Staff are required to work Bank Holidays on a rotational basis which may include weekends cross sites if required.
We Are Looking For Candidates Who
- Have excellent attention to detail.
- Work effectively as part of a team.
- Have good communication skills and are confident escalating concerns.
- Are flexible and willing to work across both St James’s University Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary.
- Understand the importance of infection prevention, patient safety and medical-device traceability.

What You Will Bring To The Role
- Disassemble endoscopes and perform manual cleaning stage of decontamination process in accordance with local and national policies.
- Operate the equipment necessary for the decontamination of endoscopic equipment according to manufacturer guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Trust Policy.
- Decontaminate all equipment after each procedure.
- Prioritise and process endoscopes to facilitate the smooth running of clinical sessions.
- Handle potentially hazardous chemicals on a daily basis according to COSHH guidelines and Trust policies.
- Maintain accurate records of all chemicals used within the decontamination process.
- Ensure that equipment is handled safely and in accordance with agreed infection control procedures.
- Wear the appropriate protective equipment and clothing in accordance with the department uniform code.
- Have a good understanding of all policies and procedures relevant to the safe decontamination and use of endoscopic equipment and the traceability processes involved.
- Maintain traceability of all equipment according to SOP and Trust Policy using paper and computerised tools through and out of the department.
