Where will you be working?
This role will be within our Water division. We help our clients safeguard the water supply, improve environmental performance and manage demand for future generations. We enhance and extend asset life, ensuring compliance with water quality and environmental standards. We’re problem solvers with over 140 years of combined experience in engineering and infrastructure.
You'll be joining our water and wastewater capital project delivery team. Our teams deliver large-scale capital programmes aimed at keeping water infrastructure resilient for the long-term while protecting the environment.
About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Degree Apprentice Civil Engineer to join our Southern Water contract. You’ll have the opportunity to gain broad experience within our design office and on our construction sites. Initially, you will work within our diverse design team, supporting the delivery of wastewater projects across the Southern Water region. You'll contribute to the development of engineering solutions, assisting with design, construction and project handover activities. The role will involve producing drawings using GIS and CAD software, undertaking hydraulic, structural and geotechnical calculations, carrying out cost-benefit analyses, and preparing scopes of work for surveys. You will work closely with clients, supply chain partners and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring health and safety is prioritised throughout the design process. You will also attend site surveys and gain exposure to construction planning, commercial activities and project management systems, with travel expected across Hampshire, Sussex and Kent.

Training and Qualification
The successful candidate will enrol onto the Level 6 Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship, with one of our partner Universities.
Over 5 years, you will work towards a BEng/BSc in Civil Engineering, as well as working towards becoming qualified as an Incorporated Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers.
Activities you may be involved in include:
- CAD design work
- Drafting scheme documents
- Construction site visits
- Liaison with local and public authorities
Requirements
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
- GCSE grade 4 or equivalent and above in Maths and English
- AND A Levels BBC minimum this must include Mathematics, and preferably a science subject or Geography (or equivalent level 3 qualification)
- Great communication skills and a willingness to learn
- A collaborative approach and a drive to make a difference
- An EU/UK Driving Licence
