The Opportunity

You’ll be part of a local team of 10 Engineers and Technicians, led by a Technical Director. The team is one of four Infrastructure teams that make up our South Region Civils Group across our Reading and Oxford offices, comprising around 50 team members.
Key Responsibilities
As an Apprentice Civil Engineer, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers and technicians, principally producing engineering drawings and supporting the design and delivery of a range of infrastructure engineering projects.
You’ll gain experience across a variety of public and private sector projects. These may include highway design, active travel schemes and urban public realm projects, as well as strategic land, mixed-use developments and commercial and industrial developments.
Working in a collaborative environment will help you build your understanding of civil engineering design, contribute to multidisciplinary projects and develop your technical skills through real project experience.
Day To Day You’ll Be
- Producing engineering drawings and figures to support projects and technical reports.
- Contributing to technical reports and engineering notes.
- Undertaking elements of highway, utilities and drainage design.
- Supporting infrastructure projects through different stages of design and delivery.
- Working alongside engineers, technicians and other professionals across multidisciplinary project teams.
- Developing your technical knowledge and practical civil engineering skills through hands-on project experience.
- Building relationships with colleagues and learning from experienced professionals.
Earn while you learn. Whichever apprenticeship route you take, your tuition and qualification fees are on us. You will work towards a Level 6 Civil Engineering degree in conjunction with one of our Training Providers. Your training provider and study arrangement will be discussed further during the recruitment process.

About You
You’re adaptable, resilient, collaborative and curious. You stay calm when things change, keep going when challenges come up, enjoy working with others, value different perspectives and like sharing ideas, asking questions and finding better ways to solve problems.
Qualifications
For our Level 6 apprenticeship you will need to achieve a minimum of 112 UCAS points, from one of the following:
A level: BBC (excluding General Studies). You must have Mathematics at grade B or above and one other analytical science subject at grade B or above. Analytical science subjects can include Physics, Biology/Human Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Further Mathematics and Design and Technology.
For Exeter University you will need: ABB
BTEC (Level 3) Extended Diploma: DMM. This must include a Merit or above in Mathematics and Further Mathematics in Construction Units. Accepted courses: Civil Engineering, Aerospace, Construction and the Built Environment and Mechanical Engineering.
UWE will also accept Aeronautical Engineering, Applied Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Operations/Maintenance Engineering. Exeter you must have DDM. Exeter will also accept Building Services Engineering Construction, Operations/Maintenance Engineering, Computer Engineering, Manufacturing and Environmental Sustainability. Coventry: you must have DDM.
Scottish Highers
Four SQA Highers at A, B, B, B, including Mathematics. Higher Applications of Mathematics is not accepted.
Irish Highers
H3, H3, H3, H3, H3, H4, with at least H3 in Mathematics and one other Analytical Science subject.
International Baccalaureate
32/655, including HL5 in Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches) and HL5 in another Science subject, including Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Design Technology, Physics or Environmental Systems and Societies.
Other Equivalent Qualifications May Be Considered.
You must also have
GCSEs: 5 GCSEs (or recognised equivalent), with a grade 5-6 (B) or above in Mathematics and English Language. Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Mathematics are also accepted.
