We have an opportunity for a Degree Apprentice Structural Engineer to join our Apprentice Programme within our Buildings team based in Oxford, starting in 2027.

This exciting opportunity will provide you with hands-on experience and academic qualifications to launch a successful career in Engineering.

Join our local Oxford team, where you'll develop your technical knowledge and practical skills while gaining valuable experience working on real projects alongside experienced engineering professionals.

You'll be joining a 12-person Buildings team within our Oxford office, which has approximately 35 colleagues. You'll also be part of a much wider regional team, expected to comprise approximately 225 people next year, giving you the opportunity to build relationships and learn from colleagues across the wider business.

Our work covers a diverse range of sectors, including education, healthcare, residential, and science and technology. Projects range from supporting smaller historic schemes for Oxford University to multidisciplinary, multimillion-pound projects, giving you exposure to projects of different sizes, sectors, and complexity.

Key Responsibilities

As a Degree Apprentice Structural Engineer, you'll work alongside experienced engineers and technicians, developing your technical capability while contributing to the delivery of structural engineering projects.

Working within a collaborative environment will give you the opportunity to develop your understanding of structural engineering design and principles, use industry design and modelling software, and work with colleagues from different disciplines.

Day To Day You'll Be

  • Supporting the development and delivery of structural engineering designs and models through different stages of projects.
  • Developing your skills using engineering design and modelling software, including CAD and Revit 3D modelling.
  • Applying and developing your understanding of structural engineering principles through practical experience on live projects.
  • Working alongside experienced engineers and technicians and collaborating with other disciplines, including architects, civil engineers, and planners.
  • Contributing to projects across education, healthcare, residential, and science and technology, ranging from smaller historic schemes for Oxford University to multidisciplinary, multimillion-pound projects.

Earn while you learn. Whichever apprenticeship route you take, your tuition and qualification fees are on us. You will work towards a Level 6 Civil Engineering degree in conjunction with one of our Training Providers.

Your training provider and study arrangement will be discussed further during the recruitment process.

About You

You’re adaptable, resilient, collaborative, and curious. You stay calm when things change, keep going when challenges come up, enjoy working with others, value different perspectives, and like sharing ideas, asking questions, and finding better ways to solve problems.

Qualifications

For our Level 6 apprenticeship, you will need to achieve a minimum of 112 UCAS points, from one of the following:

  • A level: BBC (excluding General Studies). You must have Mathematics at grade B or above and one other analytical science subject at grade B or above. Analytical science subjects can include Physics, Biology/Human Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Further Mathematics, and Design and Technology.
  • Exeter: You will need: ABB
  • BTEC (Level 3) Extended Diploma: DMM. This must include a Merit or above in Mathematics and Further Mathematics in Construction Units. Accepted courses: Civil Engineering, Aerospace, Construction and the Built Environment, and Mechanical Engineering.
  • UWE: Also accepts Aeronautical Engineering, Applied Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, and Operations/Maintenance Engineering.
  • Exeter: You must have DDM. Also accepts Building Services Engineering Construction, Operations/Maintenance Engineering, Computer Engineering, Manufacturing, and Environmental Sustainability.
  • Coventry: You must have DDM.

Scottish Highers

  • Four SQA Highers at A, B, B, B, including Mathematics. Higher Applications of Mathematics is not accepted.

Irish Highers

  • H3, H3, H3, H3, H3, H4, with at least H3 in Mathematics and one other Analytical Science subject.

International Baccalaureate

  • 32/655, including HL5 in Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches) and HL5 in another Science subject, including Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Design Technology, Physics, or Environmental Systems and Societies.

Other Equivalent Qualifications May Be Considered.

You must also have:

  • GCSEs: 5 GCSEs (or recognised equivalent), with a grade 5-6 (B) or above in Mathematics and English Language. Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Mathematics are also accepted.
