I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Alchemmy
We’re an agile, experienced and diverse team of analysts, strategists and consultants. Our clients are also diverse. But when transforming their businesses, they always want a partner they can trust. To help them maximise value, we bring the human touch, as well as our experience and deep knowledge of best practice.
Our clients pay for results, not consultancy. They get to design, develop and implement change successfully, embedding and sustaining the right vision for their business. We supercharge their ability to really move the dial on change, while grappling with the day-to-day demands of their work.
Why do we do it? Because we love it. It’s challenging and exhilarating work. Many of us have experienced the impersonal ‘big consultancy’ approach. We want to get alongside our clients, get stuck in, and help them deliver great results instead. This is the Alchemmy Difference.
