Avanade Delivery Lead – Legacy Modernization
Avanade delivers complex client transformation programs through an integrated operating model that combines delivery leadership, project management, engineering, quality, commercial governance, and stakeholder engagement. Legacy Modernization programs require coordinated execution across business stakeholders, legacy subject matter experts, modern engineering teams, migration functions, quality assurance, and client leadership to ensure predictable delivery and business continuity.
Role Overview
The Delivery Lead – Legacy Modernization is accountable for the successful delivery of complex Legacy Modernization programs, ensuring predictable execution, business continuity, and high-quality transformation outcomes while moving legacy platforms into modern target architectures.
This is a client-facing delivery leadership role responsible for end-to-end delivery ownership, governance, risk management, stakeholder coordination, scope control, and orchestration across delivery, engineering, migration, testing, and cutover workstreams.
The role collaborates with client executives, business stakeholders, Project Managers, Migration Leads, engineering teams, quality assurance teams, and onshore/offshore delivery teams to accomplish stable, measurable, and contractually aligned modernization outcomes.
The role typically sits within the Portfolio Delivery job family and operates as the integration point between the business, the delivery organization, engineering, and migration technical services functions.
Key Accountabilities
End-to-End Delivery Ownership
- Accountable for delivery execution from mobilization through stabilization and client acceptance.
- Owns integrated delivery planning, milestones, dependencies, and readiness gates across modernization workstreams.
- Ensures delivery commitments remain aligned to contractual scope, timeline, quality, and business outcomes.

Governance, Risk, and Delivery Control
- Defines and operates delivery governance, including Steering Committees, program boards, reporting cadence, and decision forums.
- Owns Risks, Assumptions, Issues, and Dependencies (RAID), delivery reporting, escalation handling, and executive narrative.
- Ensures adherence to Avanade delivery quality standards and governance expectations.
Scope, Commercial, and Stakeholder Leadership
- Owns scope baseline, change control, and alignment between delivery execution, contractual commitments, and financial targets.
- Acts as the primary client-facing delivery authority for executive communication, expectation management, and decision-making forums.
- Drives client satisfaction, transparent communication, proactive risk management, and follow-on opportunities.
Legacy Modernization Execution and Quality
- Orchestrates modernization workstreams, including code conversion, data migration, testing, validation, cutover, and stabilization.
- Owns migration and cutover risks, including data consistency, legacy dependencies, readiness gates, rollback planning, and business continuity.
- Ensures appropriate testing governance, where defined in scope, across system integration testing, user acceptance testing, parallel run, defect leakage, stability, and functional equivalence.
