The ExtraCare Charitable Trust are recruiting a Dementia and Mental Wellbeing Enabler to join our friendly team at St Oswald's Retirement Village based in Gloucester.
We are excited to be recruiting for a Dementia and Mental Wellbeing Enabler to support the village’s commitment in delivering ExtraCare’s mission of “better lives for older people”.

Role Details:
Role: Dementia and Mental Wellbeing Enabler
Hours: 28 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Rate: £16.02 per hour (£23,382pa, pro rata of FTE £31,351)
Location: St Oswald's Retirement Village, Gavel Way, Gloucester, GL1 2UF

What To Expect
You will be an essential member of the location team with specific responsibilities relating to the psychological and social wellbeing of residents, and will work as part of ExtraCare’s wellbeing services mainly supporting residents on a one to one basis and in groups. The work can be challenging due to providing support to distressed people with potentially high emotional demands.
Through person-centred relationships you will learn about resident’s unique experience of their condition, develop interventions that alleviate distress and where needed assist residents to access external dementia and mental health services.
Essential Requirements
- Knowledge of Dementia, Cognitive Impairment, and Mental Health conditions and experience of providing one to one support to people living with those conditions
- Caseload management experience
- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of using cognitive assessments
Skills And Competencies
- Be able to describe pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments for dementia symptoms
- Ability to apply your knowledge of psychosocial and solution focused interventions to residents’ problems
- Understand the limits of your role and when to escalate cases for clinical input
- Formal qualification in relevant field or relevant experience (Health & Social Care, Psychology, Counselling)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to develop empathic relationships with residents
