Job Title: Democratic Services Officer

We are currently working in partnership with a Local Authority in the North West, who are looking to appoint a Democratic Services Officer on an initial 3-month locum contract.

This will be a full-time position based in the Greater Manchester region, with hybrid working (attendance needed for meetings) and an hourly rate of circa £30 - £40 via an Umbrella company.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing professional democratic and committee support to the Council’s committees, panels and other formal meetings
  • Planning, coordinating and administering meetings, including preparing agendas, reports, minutes and meeting schedules
  • Advising Members and officers on constitutional, procedural and governance requirements to ensure meetings are conducted effectively and in accordance with the Council’s Constitution
  • Attending meetings and producing accurate, timely minutes and records of decisions
  • Working closely with elected Members, senior officers and other stakeholders to ensure meetings are well organised and run smoothly
  • Coordinating the publication and distribution of committee agendas, reports and other democratic information, including ensuring statutory publication requirements are met
  • Providing support and advice to Members and officers before, during and after meetings
  • Supporting the administration of school admission and exclusion appeals, where required, including arranging hearings, liaising with panel members and parties, and maintaining accurate records
