Company Description
PortmanDentex is a leading dental group where your skills and ambitions make a real difference. We support over 370 practices across the UK and Ireland. We’re united by a passion for great dentistry, putting patients first and helping each other grow both at work and beyond.
Job Description
As an Interim Dental Plan Sales Manager, you will drive sales of dental plans through our practices by engaging with practice teams and working with them to develop sales plans, driving up the volume of plans sold to patients.
You will work with new practices that do not currently sell plans to develop sales strategies to offer these to patients. You will also work with practices to help them with patients that cancel dental plans and work alongside Marketing and Operations to highlight the promotion and marketing of plans in their practices.
Dental plans represent a significant portion of annual revenue and are important to Portman Dentex’s continued strategic growth. Historically the business has focused on the administration of plans rather than on actively selling them. This role exists to close that gap.
This is a hands-on, field-facing sales role rather than a category or strategy role. The primary measure of success is a sustained increase in the volume of plans sold to patients across the practice network — achieved by getting close to practice teams, building practical sales plans with them, and holding them to those plans.
You will be comfortable operating at all levels of the organisation: with practice teams, including Practice Managers, receptionists, nurses, clinicians and Practice Directors, to build sales capability on the ground, and with central teams, including Marketing, Operations, Commercial and Technology, to make sure practices have the tools, materials and support they need to convert.
The role reports to the Chief Growth Officer and works in close partnership with other internal functions.
Key Accountabilities
Practice Engagement & Sales Planning
- Engage directly with practices across the network to build and agree practical, site-level sales plans for dental plans.
- Work with Practice Managers and their teams to embed plan conversations into the everyday patient journey — at reception, at check-out, and during appointments.
- Coach and motivate practice teams on how to introduce, explain and sell plans confidently and compliantly.
- Set clear, realistic sign-up targets by practice and follow up regularly to track delivery against them.
- Identify and share what is working in high-performing practices, and replicate it across the network.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Activating Practices That Do Not Currently Sell Plans
- Identify practices with no active plan offer and understand the reasons — capability, confidence, patient mix, local competition or process.
- Develop tailored sales strategies to introduce plans in these practices, sequenced by opportunity size and readiness.
- Support launch on the ground: brief the team, agree the offer and pricing approach, set up the process and stay close through the first weeks of trading.
- Build a pipeline and prioritised rollout plan covering all non-selling practices.
Marketing, Promotion & In-Practice Visibility
- Work alongside Marketing and Operations to raise the visibility and promotion of plans within practices.
- Feed practice and patient insight back into Marketing to shape campaigns, offers and messaging.
- Ensure practices have the right in-practice materials — point of sale, waiting room and digital assets — and that these are actually used.
- Support acquisition and re-engagement activity, including lapsed patient outreach and referral activity, working with the CRM team.
- Make sure all plan promotion and sales conduct meets GDC and CAP Code requirements and internal compliance standards.
Performance, Tracking & Reporting
- Track plan sales performance by practice and by region, and report on progress against target.
- Use data and insight to prioritise where to spend time and which practices to focus on.
- Identify blockers to conversion — process, system, capability or commercial — and escalate or resolve them.
- Provide regular, clear performance updates to the Chief Growth Officer and wider leadership.
