Faculty Dentist – Pediatric Dentistry (Department 10143)
ARC Pay Range: $150,000.00 – $450,000.00
About the Role
Kids Are Our Everything. The Faculty Dentist is responsible for providing world-class dental care to patients across Children’s Hospital and affiliated clinics, while advancing research, education, and advocacy in pediatric dentistry as assigned by the Division Chief and Center leadership.
Minimal Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (D.M.D.) from an ADA accredited dental school (Required)
Work Experience
- Minimum: 2 years of extensive experience treating:
- Infants
- Children
- Adolescents
- Patients with special healthcare needs
- Preferred: Experience in safe dosing for sedation and general anesthesia
- Preferred: Hospital-based training and experience
- Preferred: Graduate-level pediatric dental education or training
Key Skills & Knowledge
Ensure all responsibilities are executed with a strong foundation in:
- Medical standards & ethical practice in pediatric dentistry
- Independent clinical decision-making for patient care
- Supervision & mentorship of dental staff, students, and trainees
- Quality & safety compliance, including infection control standards
- Continuing Medical Education (CME) commitment to stay updated in pediatric dentistry trends, treatments, and policies
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Unrestricted dental license in the District of Columbia (eligibility to obtain)
- Fully licensed & credentialed attending staff at Children’s National Medical Center (Required)
- AAPD Board Certification in Pediatric Dentistry (Required)
- Secondary Board Certification (preferred but not required)

Core Responsibilities
Commitment to World-Class Care
- Provide clinical services in a compassionate, professional, and timely manner to pediatric patients across hospital and community sites.
- Manage patient care for assigned populations, ensuring continuity, customer service, and community collaborations through timely documentation & communication.
- Offer on-call support as designated by leadership.
- Engage in family-centered care, explaining treatments in clear and empathetic terms, and coordinating specialist referrals when needed.
Commitment to Advocacy
- Support Children’s National Medical Center’s (CNMC) advocacy initiatives.
- Advise on public policy, population-based pediatric health, and well-being.
- Educate patients & families on prevention, treatment, and care strategies.
- Participate in local, national, and prevention-focused programs for pediatric dental health.
Commitment to Research
- Lead significant clinical/translational research relevant to pediatric dentistry.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
- Submit grant applications and collaborate in research committees & workshops.
Commitment to Education
- Actively engage in CNMC’s medical education programs through learning sessions and supervision.
- Lead hospital/university-wide and national training initiatives.
- Provide competent mentorship for dental students and staff.
- Offer timely feedback and ensure proper patient handover.

Commitment to Quality & Compliance
- Follow ** hospital bylaws, safety standards, and infection control protocols**.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation for JCAHO regulations and standards.
- Identify care gaps and propose improvement strategies.
- Participate in quality assessment teams, protocols review, and error reporting.

Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary offered within the $150,000.00 – $450,000.00 range, based on factors including:
- Experience
- Education & certifications
- Market alignment Note: Minimal positions will not be hired near the top of the range.
