Job Description

Here at Hitachi Rail, we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Wheel Lathe Technician to join our team at the North Pole Train Maintenance Centre in London.

Salary: £45,532

  • 15% Shift allowance
  • £6000 Location allowance
  • Permanent Contract

Accountabilities

In this exciting role you will operate and maintain the wheel lathe and carry out associated activities that support the operations of the wheel lathe. This is a permanent role working on a rotating shift basis.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Maintain the condition of the work site, materials and equipment.
  • Support health and safety practices in the workplace.
  • Prepare for and undertake planned maintenance on the wheel lathe & ancillary equipment.
  • Carry out wheel turning for Hitachi and third party rolling stock.
  • Post operation checks and adjustments.
  • Confirm that traction and rolling stock assets comply with operational specifications.
  • Provide operational support to fleet staff if lathe duties permit.
  • Develop professionally and support good working relationships.
  • Learn new skills in accordance with Hitachi’s new business demands as required.
  • Liaison with Hitachi and external personnel as required to complete the duties of the post.

About You

Required Skills/ Knowledge

  • Experience in Milling, Turning, CNC, or similar experience.
  • Sound knowledge of, and adherence to, rules and regulations.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Education/Qualifications

  • M & E ONC or served apprenticeship with mechanical, electrical disciplines.
  • Engineering based NVQ level 3 or 2.

Behavioral

  • Calm and diplomatic under pressure.
  • Loyal, committed, confident and determined.
  • Strong team player.
  • Able to represent Hitachi Rail professionally at all times.

Desired Skills (not Essential)

  • Intermediate IT skills (e.g. Word, Excel).
  • Milling/Turning/CNC or similar experience.
  • Network Rail Sentinel PTS.
  • Depot driving and shunting.
  • Wheel Lathe operations and maintenance experience.
