Role Description
The Deputy Assessor is a full-time, on-site role based in Douglas, supporting the fair, accurate, and consistent assessment of property values and related data for rating and taxation purposes.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Assisting with property inspections
- Gathering and verifying valuation information
- Maintaining records
- Preparing reports and documentation to support the Assessor’s decisions

The role involves analyzing data, applying relevant legislation, policies, and valuation standards, and responding to queries from internal colleagues, property owners, and other stakeholders in a professional manner.
The Deputy Assessor contributes to process improvements, supports the implementation of new systems or procedures, and helps ensure that assessments are delivered on time and in line with regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to interpret data, apply valuation methods, and follow regulatory and policy guidelines.
- Proficiency in office and database software, accurate record-keeping, and attention to detail in documentation and reporting.
- Effective communication skills, including clear written reports and the ability to explain complex information to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Good organizational and time-management abilities, with capacity to manage multiple cases, meet deadlines, and work systematically.
- Collaborative working style, demonstrating integrity, impartiality, and a commitment to public service values.
- Experience in property, surveying, local government, taxation, or a related field is beneficial.
- Relevant professional or academic background (e.g., qualifications in surveying, valuation, planning, law, or public administration) is an advantage.
- Willingness to undertake site visits, training, and professional development to keep knowledge current with legislation and best practice.
