Company Description
Stratford-Upon-Avon Town Council is the first tier of local government serving the historic town of Stratford-Upon-Avon. The Council delivers a range of local services for residents and visitors, including responsibility for the Town Cemetery, open spaces, and civic events. It works closely with community partners to maintain local amenities and support the town’s cultural and civic life. Applicants will join a small, dedicated team focused on high-quality public service and community engagement. The Council offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the wellbeing and development of the local community.
Role Description
The Deputy Chief Officer is a part-time, hybrid role based in Stratford-Upon-Avon, with a combination of office-based work and some work from home. The role supports the Chief Officer in the day-to-day management of Council services, including coordination of cemetery operations, monitoring of open spaces, and planning and delivery of civic events. The Deputy Chief Officer will assist with budgeting and financial monitoring, maintaining accurate records, and overseeing projects that enhance local services. The role also involves:
- Responding to public enquiries
- Promoting good customer service
- Contributing to continuous improvement of Council operations
Qualifications
- Experience in local government, public administration, or a related community-focused environment, with strong knowledge of governance and democratic processes.
- Skills in planning, coordination, and project management, including the ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing reports, meeting papers, and correspondence for a range of audiences.
- Confidence in working with members of the public, councillors, and partners, demonstrating professionalism, diplomacy, and customer-focused service.
- Competence in using office software and digital tools (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, email, videoconferencing, document management systems).
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small team, exercising sound judgment and discretion.
- Experience or interest in managing or supporting services such as cemeteries, open spaces, facilities, or community events is advantageous.
- Relevant qualification in public administration, management, or a related field is desirable, or equivalent experience gained in similar roles.
